About this deal

While there she meets other mildly damaged teens while coming to terms with her own loss and mistakes, occasionally dipping back into the past to explain what really happened when her sister died. Yes, pleasant, breezy summer nonsense is always welcome, but a little bit of darkness now and again is most welcome and Lying About Last Summer explores a safe amount of darkness without becoming inappropriate for younger readers or betraying the nature of the story.

While I do wish that it had been a little longer, so there would have been more time to explore the characters in-depth, the pages were jam-packed with a pacy plot and unexpected revelations to keep me completely enthralled from start to finish. Skye’s sister died last year in a tragic accident, so this summer Skye’s parents think that a camp for troubled teenagers might help her process her grief. As you guys are aware, this is my Murder Month where I read books that have a crime/thriller/mystery element to them. This book explores a very wide range of themes, which are extremely prominent throughout, and act as an effective series of underlying messages within the overall plot.Anyways, Skye is a character I can relate to, kind yet she keeps her emotions in, little soppy and over the top at some points but she's someone you could imagine as your best friend. Yes, I am a mood reader, and sometimes I just do not fancy a book, but I finally wanted to read this one, and I did, and it was pretty awesome. Tym samym powieść nie ma przygnębiającego wydźwięku, ale w zamian poczucie narastającego zagrożenia i rosnącej tajemnicy, zagadki, na której rozwiązanie czeka się z prawdziwą niecierpliwością.

However, once she is at the camp she starts receiving text messages from someone pretending to be her dead sister. I came across Sue Wallman’s books about six months ago when I was browsing through YA, and have now read all three.

It's hard finding good teenage chick-lit to fill the summer months as most of them are about some middle-class ditz falling in love with a boy from the wrong family and are about as edgy as a satsuma. The novel was incredibly intriguing, with the story unravelling at just the right pace and with the perfect amount of red herrings and plot twists to keep me mesmerised for the whole ride. There were some good descriptions here and there, but generally I found it hard to visualise as one central location. Vast in scope, Wallman successfully manages to overlay the witty narrative of shrewd sixteen-year-old Skye Colton with a cast of nuanced characters and place them in the potentially cringe-inducing confines of a bereavement camp. The supporting characters are equally believable and three dimensional, each with a detailed backstory that explains their behaviour and attitudes.
